How to make 2020 your best year yet.

With only a month to go for 2020, now is the right time to start building what is going to be your best year yet by reflecting on what happened this year, right and wrong; and letting go of what no longer serves you.

This is an exercise I have put together to make the process easier and to truly ensure that you can start off the new year right with clarity, motivation, and the right mindset.

I highly suggest and encourage you to take your time with each of these steps before moving on to the next one and I also want you to remember, that no matter how 2019 was for you, good or bad, 2020 can be your year, exactly the way you want it to.

Throughout this exercise, I want you to remember this secret that we’ve talked about before in ‘The life changing money mindset hack‘.

Your thoughts create feelings.

Your feelings towards create your actions.

Your actions create your results.

And your current circumstances are neutral.

1. REFLECT

What was this year like for you?

What are the major experiences you’ve had that have shaped your year.

What is it that you’ve spent the majority of your time and energy on?

What actions served you and what did not?

What went right and what went wrong?

These are some great questions to go over because they in a way summarize what your year was like. Going over these questions may and will cause certain emotions to crop up which is normal, but I want you to do it for yourself anyways and be completely honest.

Once you have pondered over and written down what the year was like, try writing down the 5 major emotions that you’ve felt.

Have you constantly felt tired? Were you proud of your progress? What is it that you felt the most strongly and remember that these are 1 word emotions or feelings only which you can follow with a sentence or two about why you felt that way but not more.

2. ACCEPT AND MAKE PEACE

2019 is almost over. Everything that happened, good or bad, is now in the past.

Everything that happened, again, good or bad, was a result of your thoughts which stirred up feelings and dictated your actions, giving you the results that you have today.

The past no longer exists. It only and only exists as sentences in your head.

I remember hearing this on a podcast by my coach and mentor Natalie Bacon and I was blown away. My past only exists as sentences in my head and I have the choice whether to give it power over me or not. And the same applies to you.

So accept that your current results are a product of the thoughts you’ve focused on the most this year and that’s okay because if you want different results, you simply have to change the way you think and the thoughts you focus on.

Where you are doesn’t matter because your circumstances are neutral and you have everything you need to create the future you want

3. 2020 GOALS 

What does your dream year look like? What is it that you want to accomplish in 2020?

And this can be absolutely anything and everything you want. Think big and remember that your circumstances are neutral.

You can achieve anything you want. Your life can do a complete 180 if that’s what you want, believe me.

If your goal is to make an extra $1000 a month, why not make that an extra $5000 a month?

Just as the past only exists as sentences in our head, the future too only exists in our head as sentences and as thoughts. So why not think big?

If you’re scared about it not working out, you’ll still be where you are. But when it does work out? Imagine what that would feel like!

So think big and write down your one big goal which seems impossible (I promise you it isn’t) because your thoughts are where it all begins.

I highly highly recommend going after the one big goal as opposed to multiple goals because choosing one allows you to go all in.

If you do wish to set more than one, I recommend setting 2-3 of your biggest goals but not more. Once you’ve accomplished your first, you can move on to the next and you aren’t going to end up overwhelmed.

4. ACTION PLAN

How are you going to build your best year yet?

If your first thought was – “I have no idea how”, that’s okay. This means that your first step is going to be researching how and where to start.

I want you to pick your big, amazing goal and write down how you’re going to achieve it.

Maybe it involves taking a course, hiring a coach to work on shifting your mindset, researching how to get started, getting a fitness trainer? Whatever it is, include it in your action plan so that you have an outline of what has to be done next.

5. COMMIT TO TAKING MASSIVE ACTION

The last and perhaps the most important step that you can take is to take massive action.

Don’t wait for January 1st but start today because by the time January rolls around, this will more or less become a habit.

When you’re taking action and going after your goal, you may feel scared, you may feel nervous and that’s okay.

You’re simply trying something new and your brain isn’t used it to it so it’s freaking about because it thinks you’re in danger.

You’re not.

Nothing has gone wrong and feeling this way is normal. Just don’t give it any meaning and keep moving forward.

Remind yourself of how amazing it is going to feel when you reach the end goal and remind yourself that you’re worth this discomfort.

The worst that can happen is you feeling an emotion be that fear or unease or discomfort.

That’s it.

That’s literally the worst that can happen and I want you to push through it because you’re worth it.

Take action, measure your results, re-design your action plan if required and go all in.
